About the index

The ordinary city deserves a closer look.

Pacific Form Index is a small independent visual studio concerned with Los Angeles architecture, streetscape, and the changing quality of Pacific light.

The archive begins where landmark guides usually stop: modest commercial rooms, public stairs, blank facades, and houses partly hidden by planting.

Method

Each sequence is organized around a narrow visual question. The first looks at the way shade changes the apparent weight of a structure across four common Los Angeles building types.

The images are in-house composite visual studies. They draw from regional materials and forms but do not document, advertise, or identify individual properties. Neighborhood descriptions are intentionally broad.

Independence

Pacific Form Index is not affiliated with a museum, preservation organization, property owner, brokerage, or municipal agency. It is a self-directed editorial project.

Technology

The site is deliberately small. It uses static pages, local image files, and no analytics, advertising, cookies, or third-party scripts.
